HOMER orients Magsaysay MOL Marine Inc.'s old and new scholars
HOMER Foundation Inc recently conducted an Orientation Program for Magsaysay MOL Marine Inc.'s thirteen (13) old and new Educational Assistance Program scholars, together with their parents, for School Year 2011-2012, last June 18, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
During the said event, various talks and sessions were conducted aimed at developing the holistic character of the scholars as they embark on a new academic journey this year. Unlike previous EAP orientations, an increased focus on other important aspects of a student’s life was brought together during this year’s version. Participants had a snapshot of what was given during the 3rd Annual Magsyaysay Youth Leadership Camp, as various topics on Passion and Dynamism was brought to the foray, where Ms. Loida Rivera shared her views on how to productively and positively channel youthful energies, and Career Visioning was given, where Mr. Jong Pablo provided an array of sessions to help our scholars identify their future jobs and the way Magsaysay positions itself as a leader in providing employment opportunities.
Ms. Reyna Carillo also facilitated the film viewing session of “2 Million Minutes”, where the highlight of the program was drawn out. Parents and students, during the synthesis part, were able to level off each other’s expectations by providing inputs on what young people can do more or less, in comparison to other nationalities’ young people. It brought about an important informal dialogue with the idea of building consensus and understanding between parents and scholars. The parents expressed their deep concern over the demands of their children for luxuries, stressed the need to them to learn by writing and practicing what they get from the internet and infused the competitive spirit among their children. On the other hand, the scholars committed to balance their time for students and leisure, overcome their ningas kugon attitude and dream big and aim high for their dreams, after watching the documentary.
The scholars were also re-acquainted with the EAP Guidelines, as Mr. Jong Pablo of HOMER Foundation, ran them through the important portions of their scholarship grant.
On hand also during the morning long event was Capt. Francisco Menor, President of Magsaysay MOL Marine Inc, who gave an inspirational message to our Magsaysay Mol Marine scholars.
