On the aftermath of Typhoon Ondoy MAWELA Club mobilized its members in cooperation with MAGSAYSAY Family Center and Homer Foundation launched their relief drive for the victims of Tropical Storm Ondoy. MAWELA donated urgently needed goods worth P15,000. Goods donated from MAWELA funds are: 5 sacks of rice, boxes of noodles, biscuits, and mineral water. All were packed in MAGSAYSAY Family Center in coordination with the Relief Operation Staff of MMC, May Pacete and Jhong Pablo.
During the same day, on September 29, the packed goods were delivered to the affected families of WLMMB crew in various places in Pasig, Tagiug, Pateros, and North Fairview among other areas that were severely affected by the typhoon.
MAWELA wives, together with their husbands, volunteered to use their vehicles to deliver the relief goods in the various places mentioned. The relief operation went on throughout the whole week.Just last Sunday, October 4, MAGMOL (Magsaysay-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines) conducted a relief operation to various typhoon affected areas. As early as 6:00 am, volunteers assembled at Walter Mart in Quezon City where the relief goods were stored.
The MAWELA Club was one of the many groups that volunteered in the relief operation. The Bayanihan spirit is very heartwarming; there were a lot of volunteers and long lines of vehicles participating in the relief operation. Each group was given instructions on which area the relief goods would be distributed to.
The author’s assignment for relief drop off area is Barangay Buli, situated in Muntinlupa along the shores of LagunaLake. The houses in this community are still submerged in about 2 meters of water. The typhoon victims are mostly depending on the relief goods distributed by the government and private individuals.
At the end of the operation were happy faces on each of the volunteers and words of thanks to volunteers and MOL from the typhoon victims of Barangay Buli!
