Homer Foundation Revisits Navotas Relocation Site
Helped Organized a Medical and Educational Outreach
Over 330 residents of a relocation site in Brgy. Tanza, Navotas were able to avail of free medical and dental services last June 16. About a hundred children, ages 5-7, were provided school backpacks, books and other school supplies. They also had child-friendly activities such as reading sessions. And some 210 loot bags containing toiletries and hygiene supplies were also distributed.
Residents of the area are grateful to see again Magsaysay Group of Companies after that great mobilization of 710 volunteer MPs in 2012, dubbed as Project Doris. The project resulted to 127 homes built; 1 multi-purpose hall and 1 day care center constructed.
This area in Brgy. Tanza is a relocation site of the Habitat for Humanity-Philippines and LGU-Navotas. Residents of the site were the ones displaced by Typhoon Pedring in 2011.
Volunteer day care teacher, Jun Nuguit, described the outreach as special because it did not just address the concerns on health but also on education. The reading sessions supplemented our initiatives on improving the reading skills of children.
Homer Foundation President Marlon Rono said that Magsaysay will continue to provide necessary health and education intervention in the community. He pointed out that Homer’s program on community service will be focused in the relocation site because of its sentimental value associated with Project Doris.
Magsaysay MOL Marine, Inc., largely contributed in the success of the outreach.
